These DIY gold painted napkins make a perfect hostess gift at any time of year, but especially during the holiday season when we’re all attending (and hosting) Christmas gatherings. This is Part I of a four part series I’m participating in with other Canadian Home & Garden Design bloggers. We’ll be sharing DIY hostess gifts throughout the month of November. These gold painted napkins are quite easy to make starting with store bought napkins.
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:
Self Adhesive Vinyl Sheets if you’re using a paper cutter
or if you’re using a stencil, these ones are great because they stick to the napkin – Martha Stewart Adhesive Stencils
Step 1: Create your stencil on your cutting machine. I use a Cricut cutting machine and used the “December 25th” cartridge.
Step 2: Iron your napkins so that there are no creases that will get painted over.
Step 3: Lay out your stencil onto the fabric either in the corner diagonally or in a spot on the bottom of the napkin. To show the design when the napkin is folded into a rectangle (below), fold your napkin into quarters and fold vertically again – place the stencil on the top along the bottom edge.
Step 4: Using either the gold paint or the glitter paint, fill in the stencil using a small brush. You may need to do this a couple times to get full coverage – especially if using the glitter paint.
Step 5: Dry completely – at least 4 hours.
Roll them up with the design showing and wrap them with a pretty ribbon. You’re ready to tuck them into a gift bag along with a bottle of wine for the hostess!
Choose a variety of designs or words. Or you can use just one design for a matching set. Whichever you choose, your gold painted napkins will be a useful gift for the hostesses on your party calendar this year.
My favourite one is the peace dove. Which one is your favourite? The cardinal? JOY?
Now it’s time for some more DIY Christmas gift ideas from my Canadian blogging friends. Get ready for some wonderful handmade gift inspiration for your holidays!
