Resolution Update

Dawn on a cold January morning

It's late January and by now most of us have forgotten our resolutions we made at the start of the year. Do you make resolutions at the start of a new year? I don't really. My mind is always filled with ideas, goals and unattainables, so why clutter it up with "beginning of the year" resolutions? But secretly silently as a new year dawns,  I think about some of the changes I want to make in my life.

With the cold weather and the dark nights of a Canadian winter, I was fearing that I would end up like this guy - glued to the tv watching yet another food competition show, football I'm not really interested in and Downton Abbey (okay, you can forgive me for that!). And it's not like we sit around doing this too much between evenings curling, ballroom dance lessons one night a week and a fairly active social life (here's where Alan groans at the work "fairly active"). But one of the resolutions/ideas/goals I had for this year was to spend less time couching around and more time interacting with hubby. Isn't that what we all want? To spend more time with family away from the tv, away from outside activities, just reconnecting?

One of the ways that you can do that is with a weekly Game Night. Remember when you were a kid spending hours playing Monopoly on the floor in your bedroom? Remember your parents playing cards till the wee hours of the morning? Laughing and giggling while you were trying to get to sleep down the hall?

Last night, it was "game on" with a game of Sequence - our latest obsession. Over a bottle of wine, a Costco pizza (delicious veggie) and a newly purchased board, we spent a couple of leisurely hours while I beat the pants off him!!!

Oh did I forget to tell you that I'm a bit competitive too? Rematch is scheduled for next Wednesday. A weekly game night at our house is just what we need to have some indoor fun this winter.

How fun! I highly doubt you would ever be a couch potato! We love to play scrabble (competitively) and Trivial Pursuit...with wine of course..fun times in front of a cozy fire with family!

That's a great idea! Last year my husband and I spent way too much time on our own things in the evenings. Over Christmas holidays though, we made a point to spend more time together and it was the best, most relaxing Christmas I've ever had. So I'm no longer staying up super late. I go to bed early with him. He goes to sleep, I read my book or knit or browse pinterest on my iPod ;-) It's working out so far.

Sunny but COLD here too.
I don't really make resolutions. But this year I had a fun one that I knew I could keep. It was to put up all the new calendars. Well that got done on January 1, and I can say I've kept my resolutions.
Love the idea of game night, keep trying to talk my husband into playing scrabble.

My kids will have memories of late night card games. We have a poker night about once a month. Friends, food and drinks make for a great time.
