Candlestick Table in ASCP Louis Blue

Today I'm posting my 201st article on this little blog project of mine. Can't believe that I actually had over 200 things I wanted to share with you all. Thanks for coming along on the ride. A funny piece of trivia: with 199 posts under my belt, we had 199 followers! Isn't that weird?

Anyways, I digress. Just wanted to show you the finished candlestick table that I shared yesterday in it's naked glory. For those of you who missed it (thanks to GoDaddy being hacked), here she is:

With her slim waist and curvy legs, I thought she was screaming for something feminine. I had a little sample pot of ASCP in Louis Blue that was getting lonely in the box. "Sexy Lady" meet "Louis".

When she was first painted, the Louis Blue was quite bright. So I dry brushed some Old White over her.  Still not happy, I wet distressed it which brought out some of the chippyness (is that a word?) Haven't wet brushed before? Simple - when your paint isn't quite dry, dip a brush in some water, shake it off to remove the excess then brush it over the piece. Rub it down with a paper towel or other soft clothe. It will remove just enough paint to reveal some of the undercoat and original wood.

To finish it off as I STILL wasn't happy, I mix some Old Ochre with Annie's clear wax and applied a heavy layer, then buffed it off to reveal the colour below. This is probably the chippiest piece I've done so far. But I do like the overall effect of the layers of paint and wood.

Feminine but not frilly. Perfect for a little girl's bedroom or as a side table in a bathroom. Off she goes to the Courtland Treasures antiques market. Hope she finds a happy home.

She is lovely, just the right amount of distressing, and the perfect color.

Wow, it turned out beautifully! I absolutely love the crackled texture of the top. The layers look great.

I guess you could say I used the wet distressing method when glazing my milk paint projects...unintentionally! It looks great on this piece.
