This is the gate to our back yard from the south side of the house. It leads to the door that we use the most so I like to make it a focal point. (Those apartments at the back really look a lot closer in the picture than they actually are.) Anyways, I wanted to create something that would last throughout the spring months and didn't want to spend a lot of money.
As you come around from the front of the house, there is a little wrought iron planter. So I planted it up with some pansies just because I was sick of looking at the dead winter greens. As spring progresses, I add some forced tulips and maybe some ranunculas for colour as I've done in previous years.
More pansies at the base of this weeping pussy willow at the front door in the concrete urn. Again, I'll add to it as the weather improves.
And because I had some leftover, I quickly potted up some more pansies in this cute herb pot and sat it beneath the weeping Japanese maple in the back garden. Just because. I do things like that.

Hi Heather, I'm loving your ideas. Your wreath is perfect for your plan to change from time to time. My gate is needing a new arrangement or wreath...it's been bare since the Christmas wreath came down. Like you, I feel it's an entrance to our home, and blogged about it last year. Thanks for sharing. Helen
Love the wreath and your spring planters. You put me to shame! I have removed the red Christmas berries from all my planter boxes and containers, but still haven't done anything to make them look cheerful or spring-like. They still have the same now sad looking evergreens. I am inspired now to go out and look for some pansies. Enjoy the weekend!
love your gate--i will have to show this to my husband--we need a gate to the deck, and this would be perfect. the wreath is lovely also!
So pretty, I adore tulips!
