We're almost there......the new wallpaper is finally up, the light fixture is installed and the room is basically put back together. I can thank Alan's niece, Jessica for the quick finish as she and her family came for supper on Saturday, so I HAD to have it done.

You see, the last time Jess came for a visit in the other house, we had JUST ripped up the carpet in the dining room and the place was a bit of a disaster. Since we only visit each other's homes every couple of years, there was no way I wanted another project half done when they arrived on Saturday.

So needless to say, it was a busy week last week trying to get the old wallpaper down - a laborious job at the best of times. Worsened by the fact that it was professionally installed with very high quality paper and glue so it came off an inch at a time.
We still need drapery, light switch plates and a few extra decor pieces. But it is coming together.

Alan even got the new light fixture installed while I was grocery shopping Saturday morning. It's a huge departure from the cleaner lines I'm usually drawn to. But it does make a statement and I think the warm bronzy tones pick up the browner tones in the wallpaper. We got it half price at the Home Depot, part of their Hampton Bay line. Really weren't in the market for a fixture, but couldn't resist the price and I love the funky crystals and leaves.

This is a close-up of the paper, a tone-on-tone damask that is a lot more subdued than the green floral that was here before. The room is a lot warmer looking now. I'm really pleased with how the damask picks up the floral pattern of the area rug (below).
The dining table and chairs once belonged to Alan's sister, who sadly passed away a number of years ago. It's nice to have something of hers, especially when her daughter is visiting like this past weekend. I like it's heavy earthiness. Wanting to re-upholster the seats to something lighter, but Alan will have nothing to do with it.
All in all, I'm happy with how it turned out - it's warm and cozier than before. Once I get the drapery fabric picked out, I'll keep you up to date. Looking tomorrow in London (Ontario, not England - I wish!!) for a soft linen to use as side panels. I don't want to obstruct the windows too much because we don't really need the privacy and I don't want to cover the leaded glass.
What do you think I should put on the windows?
I can't wait to decorate for Christmas!!!
